When Justice Hides, Faith Must Speak

Luis Leon, an 82-year-old legal U.S. resident, walked into an immigration office simply to replace his green card. What followed defies logic or legality: he was handcuffed without warning, his wife detained for ten hours, and his family lied to by someone posing as a lawyer, claiming he had died.
This was no mistake. He was secretly deported with no court order, no record, and no due process sent to Guatemala, a country he has never lived in and has no ties to. There, he collapsed from untreated medical conditions and was found in a hospital thanks only to relatives in Chile.
What happened to Mr. Leon was a blatant violation of human rights and a chilling display of unchecked power within a broken immigration system.
📖 “The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down.”
— Psalm 146:7-8
At RenaceUSA, we believe human dignity is sacred. And when institutions fail, people of faith must rise and speak. This was not justice—it was a warning. And silence is no longer an
option.
📖 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”
— Proverbs 31:8
This case reminds us:
Cruelty in the system is still alive.
Even lawful residents are vulnerable.
Truth must come to light—and people of God must be part of that light.
If we don’t speak now, how many more will be silenced?
